MANAGING SCOLIOSIS WITH A REGULAR YOGA PRACTICE

A practical workshop for yoga teachers.

Every yoga teacher will come across ranges of scoliosis , from mild to severe, during their teaching career.

Do you know what it means?

Do you know how to approach it?

Do you know what to avoid?

This workshop will explore:

• The clinical relevance of scoliosis

• Anatomy and biomechanics of the different types of scoliosis patterns

• How to design a yoga practice to best fit your client with scoliosis

• Assisting your client to better understand their symptoms and when to refer for furtherhelp

• Practical implementation of different asanas to better work with this population

Toni-Lynne Monger has been working with scoliosis patients since 2006 and has noticed that when you know what to look for in a spine, mild scoliosis is more common than we think. Yoga is one of the exercises she prescribes to her client base at The Balance Group and her close collaboration with Will has seen a huge success rate in addressing long standing pain.

Will Lindeque has been a qualified yoga teacher for the past 5 years. In 2018 he started practising out of the The Balance Group and by working closely together with Toni and other health care practitioners at the studio is able to address various injuries and in particular adjusting his asanas for people with scoliosis. Will himself was unaware that he had scoliosis until he received treatment from Toni who was able to put his shifting pain patterns into a logical explanation and since working with her methodology he has seen a huge improvement.
