The Blue Butterfly

In the tranquil Tulbagh Valley, just over an hour and a half from Cape Town, one finds The Blue Butterfly nestled in the heart of the Welbedacht Game and Nature Reserve. With about 10 km of trails that meander through diverse and natural plant lands, one can observe a range of flowers for every season, an abundant variety of birdlife and both small and large game species that roam freely within the Reserve.
Surrounded by the majestic Winterhoek & Witzenberg Mountains, Welbedacht Game and Nature Reserve stretches across 153 hectares - which is a big enough space to explore without disturbance. Within the heart of the reserve lies The Blue Butterfly - this space is about an acre and a half in size and is surrounded by low stone walls and trees creating a held and secure space for retreat work.
The Blue Butterfly is a beautifully restored thick-walled barn with facilities on the ground floor including a spacious wooden-floored lounge / studio / workshop area with a fireplace. This area is connected via a large covered veranda to the thatched and fully equipped for self-catering farm-style kitchen that can seat about 18 persons. The covered veranda opens up onto lush, enclosed gardens with trees, big lawns, pergola and fishpond, there is also a fire pit and BBQ / braai space.
Within the Blue Butterfly’s area are a total of 7 en suite units with a total of 18 single beds. For larger groups, up to about 40 persons can be accommodated in 15 en-suite rooms when including the chalets.
The space opens up directly into the nature reserve where one will find zebra, springbok, wildebeest, our herd of adopted / retired horses and many other animals roaming freely, as well as an abundance of bird life, plant life and wild life, walking trails, a swimming dam and a labyrinth to explore!
