An Introduction to Trauma Sensitive Yoga (FREE Online Workshop)

An Introduction to Trauma-Sensitive Yoga.png

Candice is a licensed counsellor and internationally trained yoga therapist that specialises in trauma and mental health. She is passionate about yoga as a powerful healing modality for survivors of trauma, and is currently completing her Masters thesis on this topic - within the South African context.

South Africa as a country, has a history of political violence and systemic traumatisation. While political ideologies and legal systems have shifted dramatically since then in the last 25 years; the South African population is still struggling with a significant trauma burden. The South African Stress and Health Study (SASH) found that trauma exposure of the general population, in present day South African is approximately 78.3%. Ensuring our yoga classes are trauma-sensitive and effectively support recovery from trauma is vitally important as South African yoga teachers and yoga teacher students.

This is a fascinating and much-needed area of specialisation in South Africa, that Candice would love to share with those that share this interest and vision.

This is a free, 2 hour introductory workshop that will be conducted online (via Zoom). We will explore some of the core principles of trauma-sensitive yoga and how you can immediately start making your classes more trauma-sensitive.

About Your Host

Candice is a licensed counsellor and internationally trained yoga therapist that specialises in trauma and mental health. As a person she is curious, empathic and creative.

Through her own personal traumas, large losses and grief, and a chronic illness diagnosis she has sought out experience and knowledge on whole-being healing and wellness that works. Through this and her academic pursuits, Candice has developed a passion for yoga as a healing modality within mental health - and particularly with trauma survivors. She runs a private yoga therapy, counselling and training practice focused on this, and is currently completing her Masters thesis on trauma-sensitive yoga within the South African public healthcare system.

She has established herself as a local knowledge authority in this area, and is particularly passionate about sharing this body of work and knowledge freely where she is able to.
