"If you change its size, shape or colour; you will begin to see it differently - that's creativity."

OUR STORY

Afroyogi is a brand that beautifully combines the practice of yoga with African culture through its vibrant and unique African print yoga mat bags. These bags are designed to not only be functional and practical for yogis but also to showcase the rich heritage and colourful aesthetics of Africa.

Each Afroyogi yoga mat bag is carefully crafted with high-quality materials and features traditional African prints, patterns, and motifs. The prints used in their designs are inspired by various African cultures, such as Ankara from West Africa, Kente from Ghana, Mudcloth from Mali, or Shweshwe from South Africa. These prints add a touch of authenticity and uniqueness to the yoga mat bags, making them stand out in the yoga community.

Beyond their eye-catching designs, Afroyogi yoga mat bags are designed with functionality in mind. They are spacious enough to fit most standard-sized yoga mats, along with additional accessories like straps, towels, or water bottles. The bags typically feature adjustable shoulder straps, allowing for easy transportation to and from yoga classes or wherever your practice takes you.

OUR FOUNDER

Dr Kgomotso Mathabe was born and raised in Alexandra township, Johannesburg at a time when the struggle against apartheid was intensifying. Her family placed great importance upon education and in this pursuit of an education she experienced the intersectionality of life in the township, life in the village and life in the wealthy northern suburbs of Johannesburg.

Throughout, her life has been interesting contrasts and intersections. Least of which is a meeting of Africa and other cultures. She has always loved the vibrant colours of African Culture as expressed in the African print fabrics of our celebrations. In particular the tribal associations of various patterns. Her career choice in the field of medicine speaks to her interest in well-being, which is more than just the absence of disease. Her discovery of yoga tapped deeply into an interest of wellness.

AfriYogi then is the intersection and culmination of her celebration of wellness, well-being and the vibrancy of Africa
