About:

I have been practising and studying yoga for many years now. I have my advanced qualification through the International Yoga Alliance Certification, but I have also studied in many of India’s old hatha yoga institutions and I lived in India for a number of years. It is wonderful to bring to Durban the ancient Indian philosophy of yoga.

My father was also a yoga teacher. He lived in Kolkata (Culcutta), India, and practised hatha yoga since the 1940s. He remained young, free from illness and continued to teach yoga up until he was 85. Thanks to him, I always realised the benefits as he was an example to me of how hatha yoga could keep you fit in the body and mind, and immense advantages for older people particularly warding off illness, keeping the body in equilibrium.

I have my advanced qualification through the International Yoga Alliance Certification, but I have also studied in many of India’s old traditional hatha yoga institutions. From 2018-2020 I lived in India to continue my dream of going deeper into the ancient Indian philosophy of yoga.

I follow the teachings of Patanjali (Ashtanga Yoga), Ayurveda and Hatha Yoga which are laid down in some of the oldest texts of yoga so my yoga is rooted in ancient tradition passed down by the teachers over thousands of years, teaching that we are a multi-layered beings, from our physical body to your subtle body. Yoga is about creating health and equilibrium in our body, calming the mind and allowing us to become in touch and at peace with our true self.

The teachings that I pass on to you can be practised by raw beginners to advanced, young to old. I particularly enjoy teaching pranayama (breath control). You are never too old to start yoga! I lived in the house in India of a 90-year-old, whose mind and body was that of someone in their twenties thanks to her regular practice of yoga. I have studied Yoga Therapy and can help design exercises to help people with various illnesses and those in remission after hospital treatments.

I am happy to teach people on an individual basis to groups of any the size. The benefits for me have been profound and I relish the opportunity to share my experience of this magnificent ancient practice with others.
