About

We are in a moment that requires connection to one another, wherever we live. The scale of challenges depends upon all of us together striving towards a better future. Regrettably, South Africa is the most economically unequal country in the world with 49% living below the poverty line, yet people need opportunities for advancement. Father and Son team Geoff and Chris Barkley founded Health Warriors in 2018 to address the problems in South Africa and bring health and wellness to all. When you partner with Health Warriors, you invest in your own wellbeing while at the same time employ young talented South Africans, and they in turn uplift their communities.

Health Warriors trains and employs youth leaders from Khayelitsha Township in South Africa in wellness professions, such as yoga, mindfulness and positive psychology. They deliver these needed services to their community (where crime, drug and unemployment are rampant) and also to greater Cape Town. One innovative program offered through Health Warriors is ‘MindPower,’ an eight-week mindfulness and positive psychology course given to 11-13 year old adolescents in Township schools. Developed in collaboration with other South African nonprofits, this open-sourced training shows great potential. Several pilot studies have just been completed!
