Silent Yoga Retreat

30 August - 1 September | Sima Kade, Magaliesburg

The world we live in is filled with noise, both literal and figurative. From the sound of people talking and traffic to the constant distraction of social media and never-ending to-do lists, it can be hard to find a moment of peace. This is where silent retreats come in. By taking a vow of silence for a set period, participants have the opportunity to quiet their minds and focus on personal reflection and contemplation.

During a silent retreat, participants are encouraged to refrain from talking during meditations, meals, yoga, journaling, reading, and other activities. This lack of verbal communication helps to remove distractions and allows participants to reach a deep level of solitary contemplation.

There are several benefits to attending a silent retreat. Firstly, it offers a digital detox, as phone usage is not allowed. This allows for greater focus and concentration and can also lead to deeper connections with fellow participants. Secondly, the serene setting of a silent retreat often takes place in a tranquil and beautiful environment, allowing participants to appreciate the natural world around them. Thirdly, silent retreats often promote mindfulness, which has been shown to boost immune system health, improve quality of life, and help with insomnia. Fourthly, by turning inward through silence, participants can learn to better manage negative thoughts and feelings. Finally, research has shown that silent meditation can improve brain function and efficiency, leading to improved attention and impulse control.

While a silent retreat can be challenging, it is also a rewarding and fulfilling experience that can improve mental health and well-being. Silent retreats involve taking a vow of silence for a set period to promote personal reflection and contemplation. Benefits include a digital detox, appreciation for natural beauty, mindfulness, improved management of negative thoughts, and improved brain function. While challenging, silent retreats can improve mental health and well-being.

Sima Kade is nestled in a private valley in Magaliesburg. Built using stone and wood from the valley, the six independent venues mimic the surrounding environment, flowing from forest to riverside to grass along stone pathways. Designed as sustainable off-grid retreats for total immersion in the natural environment, Sima Kade is truly at one with its surroundings. The venues are ideal for groups, ceremonies, outdoor enthusiasts, retreats, and private, secluded stays. We have small, medium, and large venues with the capacity for romantic weekends away for two, intimate gatherings of friends, or workshops with large groups of guests and facilitators.

This valley hosts a cornucopia of indigenous plant and animal life, thriving on a river of natural spring-water that flows from waterfalls and rock pools, down into forests and small gorges. Walking paths allow for day excursions around the valley along the tall cliffs and into our beautiful forested amphitheatre. The night sky provides a clear view of the stars. The valley has a cosy ambiance, surrounding the tranquil venues with plush green slopes in summer and warm golden grasses in winter - looking out over the Magalies valley rolls up against its famous southern cliffs for picturesque sunsets.

About your Host: Carol Roberts -Twigg

Yoga has been an integral part of my life since 2010. It has helped me grow stronger, more flexible, and fearless both on and off the mat. My practice inspires me to live each moment more mindfully.

Over the years, I have completed various styles of yoga teacher training, such as Bikram, Vinyasa, and Yin Yoga. I am now hosting yoga teacher training and continuing to study the traditions and philosophy of yoga, as well as those of Chinese medicine. This is where my love for Yin yoga comes in, and I decided to study it too. I will always remain a student of the practice and am deeply grateful for the loving wisdom my teachers have shared with me.

In my classes, I enjoy combining creative sequencing, a spirit of playfulness, and inspiration to help my students deepen their practice. I aim to help others thrive in life by nurturing their body, mind, and soul with yoga. I hope that after each class, they will step off the mat feeling refreshed, nourished, and balanced. Yoga is not just a form of exercise; it is a way of life that has become an essential part of my life.

In 2021, I started hosting yoga retreats to share a deeper knowledge of yoga with my students. So far, I have hosted six retreats and continue to share the power of yoga with people from all walks of life.
